Kayaking on Quassaick Creek. Photo provided.

From a recent Riverkeeper e-newsletter…

Riverkeeper’s Habitat Restoration team recently hosted a community kayak day in the City of Newburgh for residents and our partner organizations, Outdoor Promise and Crystal Lake Sanctuary Healing Gardens.

Paddling in kayaks, participants had the chance to experience the Hudson River and Quassaick Creek up close and personal. Much of Riverkeeper’s habitat restoration work takes place on Quassaick Creek, a key tributary of the Hudson. Our team educated the group about Riverkeeper’s dam removal efforts on the creek, a critical part of our work that helps restore habitat and allow wildlife to thrive.

Thank you to the Newburgh Waterways Center for providing the kayaks and safely guiding our flotilla across the river.

This work is made possible through a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
